The Birmingham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will provide mentoring to GEAR UP Birmingham students through its Delta GEMS and EMBODI youth initiatives. Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) is open to young ladies of high school age while EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) serves young men ages 11 to 17. Both programs meet monthly from September through May and offer students an opportunity to cultivate a personal vision for their lives, increase their awareness of college and career options, engage in STEM related academic enrichment, and build their resumes through community based service learning efforts.
